Who knew the simple things in life are what give cats and kids the most fun. I say cats first because growing up I had several cats and it would never cease to amaze me how they would always go for the random paper bag left on the floor, cardboard box or my foot instead of the cutesy toys I would be suckered into buying for them.
The same I have found true for my children. Usually the gifts that we have actually bought them have been thrown to the wayside only to be replaced by a random stick or cardboard box that have left hours of entertainment for the boys.
I would have to thank Aunt Boo and her hubby for these oh so fabulous freebie gifts they gave to my children. Who knew a set of free beach balls would have had such an impact on my kids. They have fought and played with these balls for the last 3 or 4 months.
Everett has really grown an attachment with the beach balls so much so he sleeps with one almost every night and a beach ball travels with us everywhere we go and did I mention one is within Everett's eyesight at all times. Oh yeah, he calls it his soccer ball.
The boys have developed some serious skills with these "soccer balls." Jackson has some fancy footwork when we are out in the yard playing soccer. Everett can palm both balls and shoot continuously at the basketball goal. He even climbs on things to shoot both balls at the goal. Yes, he makes about 90 percent of his shots.
The other night we were watching Larry Bird's 50 Greatest Moments and they were highlighting his skill at winning the three point contest three years in a row (86, 87 & 88) when I noticed the "money ball." This is usually a different colored ball used as the last shot in the three point contest to earn 2 points instead of 1 or it may be worth a little more money than the other shots made. Well the money ball happens to be the same colors as our beloved soccer ball. So now we have a money ball instead of a soccer ball.
